Prepare students to enter directly into a credit-bearing math course at the postsecondary level or to go directly into a career field.
The Wallowa ESD has been supporting a pilot course called Mathematical Modeling and Reasoning Course that was designed by Ohio Department of Education and many other teachers and leaders (see course summary here). This course supports the Oregon Department of Education Mathways Initiative. The MMR course has been implemented for four years now in Ohio and it has been implemented for three years in various schools within our region. They have been offered to expand this pilot and would like to offer you and your district a chance to be a part of this course and piloting implementation.
They will be sending a group of HS math teachers to Ohio this summer to be trained in the course. (Some have been and will return again, for others, it will be their first time). The training is offered in two different time slots:
July 18-21 (Columbus or Cincinnati)
July 25-28 (Columbus or Cincinnati)
All expenses will be paid for and participating teachers will also receive daily compensation for their attendance. The invitation is also open to instructional coaches and principals who would like to participate to help with longevity and sustainability of the course.
