Behavioral Safety Assessment Advice from the Hungerford Law Firm

The partnership between school districts, law enforcement, mental health providers, and other members of BSAT / threat assessment teams can blur the lines between "educational" and "non-educational" services and, as a result, raise a host of issues regarding the "when" and "how" school staff should recommend, discuss, and participate in referring students to such programs and working in ongoing partnership with students, their parents, and team members.  This workshop will address issues related to legal liability, financial responsibility, and confidentiality, and review procedures that schools can use to ensure that they can actively and productively participate in these partnerships without exposing the district to undue liability or risk.
