Resources for educators are located below.
In this interactive professional learning session, educators will observe a live opinion or argumentative writing lesson with students, seeing effective instructional practices in action from start to finish. Participants will experience how opinion/argumentative writing can be taught with clarity, purpose, and strong student engagement—using explicit modeling, academic language, and structured support. Following the lesson, educators will engage in a guided debrief to unpack what they observed. Together, we will analyze instructional moves, student responses, and writing outcomes, connecting practice to research-based strategies that strengthen student voice and reasoning.
Educators will walk away with:
A clear understanding of what high-quality opinion/argumentative writing instruction looks like in real classrooms
Practical strategies for teaching claims, reasons, and evidence at developmentally appropriate levels
Insight into how modeling and think-alouds support all learners
Tools for increasing student engagement, confidence, and independence in opinion/argumentative writing
A shared language for discussing writing instruction and student work
Ready-to-use instructional moves they can immediately apply in their own classrooms
Time and space to reflect, ask questions, and collaborate with colleagues
