2023 Fall PD Day - Writing Workshops with Yolanda
Using strategies from Step Up To Writing, Best Practices in Writing Instruction, and the Writer's Workshop Model, this interactive, hands-on session will focus on research-based, classroom-tested activities that participants will be able to take straight into their classroom. Participants will leave with a session-by-session plan on how to teach their students to write informatively! There are three sessions to choose from below based on grade level. All teachers who want to work on improving student writing, even if you have not participated in this cohort previously. The Eastern Oregon REN will reimburse travel expenses for educators attending from outside Malheur County.

October 5th - K-1 Session
October 6th - 2-5 Session
October 6th - 6-12 Session
Session Topics Include:
Building stamina as writers;
Generating their own topics and narrowing their focus;
Brainstorming activities that help organize thoughts and, thus organize writing;
Helping students become Independent Writers as they plan, write, and revise;
Self-editing tricks;
Methods for holding students accountable for doing their best work;
Classroom structures that support inquiry and collaboration;
Using literature to help students craft their writing.
